AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE
U.S. FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION
The Reportable Food Registry, or RFR, a new reporting system, has been established to help FDA track patterns of adulteration in food. You can learn more about it at
www.fda.gov/ReportableFoodRegistry.
Federal law requires a Responsible Party to file a report through an FDA internet portal (http://rfr.fda.gov) when the responsible party determines that there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, an FDA-regulated food
(other than infant formula and dietary supplements) will cause serious adverse health consequences or death to humans or animals. A Responsible Party is the person who submits the facility registration information to FDA for a food facility at
which such food is manufactured, processed, packed, or
held for human or animal consumption in the United States.
That means that every facility required to be in the FDA Food Facility Registration Database is subject to the requirements of the RFR. It also means that it is especially important that your facility’s registration information
be up to date because the RFR internet portal
requires your facility’s registration number.
Updating your current facility registration or entering a new registration is easy. You can do it online at www.access.fda.gov.
There is no fee for registration or for updates to a registration.
If you have any questions, a Registration Help Desk is available on business days from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm (EST) at
800-216-7331 [outside the U.S. call 301-575-0156].
